Connecting with your supporters this Father’s Day

Father’s Day can be incredibly difficult when you’re grieving, especially if you’ve recently lost a father, father figure or a child. We know you want to offer the families you work with all the help you can, and build relationships with them, but how do you do that?

Promoting your tribute fund scheme for Father’s Day not only offers a great way to illustrate how tribute pages can help families, but it can also help demonstrate your need for funds, how you help your supporters, and the impact donations can make.

We’ve come up with a few suggestions of what you can post to connect with your followers and prospective supporters on social media. It’s a great way to show your charity’s case for support without a direct ask.

1. Offer something to your supporters – no ask included

Promote your tribute fund scheme and make it clear that this is a special place to cherish memories of their loved ones. First and foremost, it’s a way to remember and celebrate the life of the person they’ve lost. Emphasise that pages are theirs, for free, to keep for as long as they wish. Make no mention of fundraising; instead focus purely on what a page can do for your families. This is a great place to start if you’ve not promoted tribute pages as yet on your social media channels.

2. Share all the ways that a page can help families

A page is a beautiful, safe space to store their precious memories, and they can make the page as unique as the person they’re remembering. They can add photos, stories and memories, videos and music, and connect with family worldwide to remember that person. Focus again on what a page offers families, and offer your support to create a page if needed.

3. Share the impact of your tribute fund scheme

Rather than ask for in-memory funds, focus on what funds have already done for your charity. Have you been able to buy a particular piece of equipment? Carry our research, or employ new staff? Seeing the tangible results from in-memory giving can be very important to grieving families and may be the push they need to set up a tribute page themselves.

4. Share your tips on coping with grief

Write a blog about coping with Father’s Day – and share it across your social feeds. Showing your expertise like this can be a great way to build trust in your charity. It doesn’t have to be very long; simple is often better. Alternatively, you could share our latest public blog about grieving on Father’s Day – we won’t mind (though please tag and credit us appropriately!).

5. Share a case study

If you have one, share the story or case study of a supporter who already has a tribute page, detailing how it has helped them, with a quote and photo if possible. Having ambassadors like this for a tribute fund scheme can make a real difference to potential in-memory donors, as they can connect with the person featured in the story.
